We both bring unique expertise to the table.
Me: knowledge of ‘what works’ in terms of procedures, tools, rooted in research, training and direct experience with hundreds of patients.
You: life experience, core values and strengths.
-
We start with the least intrusive treatment plan.
If / when you need other professions involved, we create a virtual team.
If we decide you need more intensive care, we’ll negotiate the networks together to connect you.
If / when you decide it’s time to step down in terms of care intensity, we’ll do it in a careful, respectful and evidence-informed manner.

Research has repeatedly shown us that even the best clinicians and clients can run into trouble, that even the best clinicians can use help picking up on the early signs that treatment is ‘off track’ for success, and that early detection is key.
The OQ®-ANALYST Outcome Questionnaire acts like a psychotherapy “smoke detector”. It can make the difference between good and poor outcomes, because it keeps the clinician informed on your psychological well-being , helping to ensure your voice is heard in a timely manner.
About my practice.
Treatment Approach.
Content (What we’ll do - Manuals and protocols)
In terms of technique, cognitive-behavioural, (specifically, we’ll use the Unified Transdiagnostic Protocols for depressive and anxiety disorders, cognitive processing (CPT) approach with PTSD; schema therapy (to address deeply ingrained, problematic traits.) and CBT-I (to address persistent insomnia)
We ‘trust, but verify’ - we trust research-supported treatment protocols, but regularly verify that they are really helping you, session by session.
Style - How we do it!.
We work collaboratively, respectfully, in a relaxed, focussed style. When treatment works, its when we both contribute!.
Training and Experience.
I obtained my Ph.D. In clinical psychology at McGill in 1987, and have worked as a clinician with adolescent and adults since.
I am trained inmotivational enhancement, treatment of insomnia, anxiety (particularly panic disorder, generalized anxiety, social phobia and OCD) and depressive disorders, addictive behaviours (specifically, substance use disorders and problem gambling) and PTSD, particularly with military/police/Veterans.
I specialize in longstanding, persistent presentations that are rooted in your past but driven by the choices you are making, every day.
I use the OQ Analyst system, to help protect clients from unnecessary distress / deterioration during treatment as well as premature drop-out (see icon, below).
I have published journal articles and, more recently, a book chapter , for clinicians, on the assessment and treatment of concurrent addictive and trauma spectrum disorders.
